Check out this awesome idea: a date night jar. (I did not originate this but thought it was awesome)
Maybe you guys didn’t know but I am crafty. I enjoy making things beautiful and dressing up my house or making things exciting. The jar falls in the latter category.
My husband and I have been dating for five years on February 10. We, like many parents, enjoy just the two of us time every once in a while. I love this jar idea because it keeps things exciting and different. I feel like so often we get stuck in a rut of just going out to dinner. Our typical date night involves the following situation: he stares at the TV due to his undying obsession with basketball. I watch as people walk by our table which I really enjoy but when I make comments about them, he doesn’t pay attention. I don’t enjoy basketball, sorry to all you basketball lovers, so I am not supportive of his passion by watching the game with him and that makes it difficult. (I like football – go Packers!) At this point I then criticize him for staring at the TV when really all I want is to be actively involved in a date. Or, have you been on those dates where you both sit there and stare at your phone? I am totally guilty of this one! I must say, sometimes I have nothing to say and I’m am a loss for conversation so I take to looking at my phone. Since I’m often at a loss for other date night ideas, I hope this helps spice up the night!
The details: I recycled a spaghetti sauce jar and added a pretty ribbon I had laying around the house. Is it bad that I chose my spaghetti sauce because they come in a mason jar? I use them for cups too! I painted the pretty popsicle sticks with my favorite CeCe Caldwell Paints. The whole project cost me under $10. I collaborated with my husband and came up with ideas for what we would like to do on a date. Then I separated each color into a dollar amount category. Depending on how much we feel like spending will decide what color popsicle stick we chose.
Paint Colors: I used Kailua Coral, Newport Navy, Spring Hill Green, Vintage White and Traverse City Cherry. If you want to use these wonderful paints for your next project, you can look online for a local distributor at www.cececaldwells.com or head over to www.dearolympia.com and my good friend Taylor can send you paint. She even ships internationally!
